Former Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kevin Pangos announced his retirement from professional basketball on Saturday. The 33-year-old Canadian made the emotional announcement via an Instagram post, concluding an 11-year career that included a stint in Cleveland.

Pangos's retirement news arrives as the Cavaliers reflect on a challenging playoff run. The team's most recent result was a 93-130 loss to the New York Knicks on May 26, 2026, capping a difficult stretch where they lost four of their last five games.

In his Instagram post, Pangos delivered a heartfelt message to fans, coaches, teammates, and family. He reflected on his journey from a kid dreaming on a driveway in Holland Landing, Canada, to achieving his NBA dream.

"I can 1000% say I gave it everything I had," Pangos wrote. "I never let the circumstances dictate my approach. So, to that kid on the driveway. By himself. For hours and hours. We did it!" He thanked the game of basketball for the career he "always dreamed of."

The post drew immediate reactions from across the basketball world. Fellow Canadian Steve Nash offered congratulations on an "incredible career." Former Gonzaga teammate Nigel Williams-Goss called it a "legendary career." Other players like Nik Stauskas, Tyler Ennis, and Buddy Hield also sent their best wishes for his next chapter.

After a standout four-year career at Gonzaga, Pangos declared for the 2015 NBA Draft. He went undrafted, a setback that launched a successful overseas journey. He started his professional career with Gran Canaria in Spain's Liga ACB.

His play earned him moves to Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania and then a significant two-year stint with European powerhouse FC Barcelona. Following his time in Spain, Pangos signed with Zenit Saint Petersburg in Russia for the 2020 season.

His persistence paid off ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season. The Cleveland Cavaliers signed the guard, bringing him into the league at last. His NBA tenure, while brief, fulfilled a lifelong ambition.

Pangos's retirement is a moment to acknowledge the winding paths of professional careers. For the current Cavaliers, the focus is squarely on the future after a tough playoff exit. Their recent form shows one win and four losses in their last five games, including consecutive defeats to the Knicks by scores of 108-121 on May 24 and 109-93 on May 22.

The team's last victory was a convincing 125-94 win over the Detroit Pistons back on May 18. As one chapter closes for Pangos, the Cavaliers are already writing their next one, aiming to build on this season's experiences.
